All About Vlackbook

Who is Vlackbook?

Jesus Pineda, the Founder of Vlackbook. Was born on April 28, 2001, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Growing up in Broward County, he graduated from Western High School. Afterwards, he went and got his Associates Degree from Miami’s Fashion Institute.

Vlackbook’s first creations

Jesus was self taught on how to make and design clothes at age 15. One of his very first creations was a pair of jeans that he distressed back in 2016. At the time, he loved brands like Supreme and other hype beast brands, but since he couldn’t afford them, he decided to start making his own clothes.

When he created the distressed jeans, it was that exact moment he realized he wanted to become a fashion designer. Once he was getting feedback from his jeans and saw how people loved his work, he loved what he was doing, he described it as an “All time high” for him. After all that, he kept on creating more clothes like t-shirts and more jeans and that’s what kept him going and motivated.

Fashion can mean a lot to many of us who love the fashion world. But for Jesus, it was different. He’s always said that “I wouldn’t see myself doing anything else but fashion.”

The future of Vlackbook

When asked where he sees himself 10 years from now, he explained that he sees himself owning many companies, different flows of income, and mainly a powerhouse of a person. As for Vlackbook, 10 years from now he sees his brand as a multi-million dollar company that’s not only fashion but that’s everything related to fashion and everything he wants to do. It’ll be a household name at the end of the day.

How was Vlackbook created?

As all of us, we have many inspirations but Jesus says his biggest inspiration is himself. He felt that he doesn’t just inspire himself but everyone around him.

When first creating the brand name, it was a struggle. Originally it was going to be “Pain N’ Panic”, but once he heard Vlackbook it just felt right to him.

As for Vlackbook, he created his brand in 2016. He started out making designs on Adobe and Illustrator. As of right now, he just graduated from MFI (Miami’s Fashion Institute) and is moving his brand more to a cut & sew designer aesthetic rather than a t-shirt brand.

Jesus’s experience at MFI (Miami’s fashion institute

Jesus attended MFI for college. From the school, he said it was an incredible experience. He’s had amazing teachers and for the price it is, it’s a great program. If he went to a different school, it would’ve been a whole other situation from right now. Since Jesus has graduated from MFI, he’s ready to continue Vlackbook as a brand and is ready to learn more, further down the road, whether good or bad. He’s especially ready to grow as an individual.

Vlackbook’s snake corset

I asked Jesus what has been the toughest and proudest garment he’s made so far, and it would be his Snake Corset. It was his toughest because it was hand sewed and took the most tedious time. He elucidated that “I’m not the best at couture sewing or couture finishes, but I had put my all into it. It took headaches, pain, and struggles to make it” but overall it was his proudest one because it was the most interesting to make. It was made from many fabrics that he used for his final collection, and considers it the best and most interesting.

The upcoming artist

Many designers these days can be considered as artists, but Jesus said that he doesn’t consider himself an artist yet. Yes, he makes artistic and creative art work but he feels he still has more to learn. The art in designing clothes is working with the moving body and creating art from it. At the end of the day, he wants to create art whether it’s making furniture, making paintings or even sculptures in the future.

Jesus’s views on the fashion world

With all the fashion trends going on, all of us have different favorite brands and designers. When asked, “If you could spend a day with any artist who would it be and what would you ask them?” he answered “Alexander Mcqueen because we have almost the same ideologies and I’d ask him what’s on his mind.” Collaboration wise, Jesus mentioned he’d love to collaborate with Matthew Williams because he feels that they both have the same ideas and aesthetic. But besides Matthew, he’d also love to collaborate with any Japanese artist like Takashi Murakami because they have very interesting art that he admires.

Currently the fashion industry has a lot going on every single day. With current trends, Jesus sees that everyone has their own styles. When asked if there is any fashion trend he thinks that will make a comeback, he just simply replied “At the end of the day, trends will always make a comeback, so whatever I dislike today, I could possibly love tomorrow.” But if he were to change one thing in the fashion industry, it’d be the waste and garbage being used to create fast fashion. “A lot of brands just make the same clothes over and over again, whether if it’s in different colors or different materials. But they should be reused, instead of creating waste. There should be a new way of creating fashion rather than having 8 to 16 different collections a year, it’s just a waste to the earth.” Jesus explained.

The process of creating garments

Before creating the garments, you always need to think of the perfect environment to work in, so you don’t get distracted. A peaceful place Jesus considers to work in would be either a studio place or even your own space you feel comfortable in. But when working from home, it can be a huge burden to him, it’s a place to rest, not stress.

When creating a collection and garments, it can always be a long and hard process. First things first is creating the garment idea. Jesus explained that the hardest part of creating a collection is coming up with the idea and executing it. Patience also plays a big part of the process. He has struggled with it growing up but realized it’s important. When finalizing a collection, comes the fashion show. A vision Jesus sees for his first fashion show would be his models walking on a large plot of land while the models display his garments with a videographer recording, and for the recording he wants to show more of a fashion video rather than a fashion show. But for an overall collection, Jesus says there’s no perfect collection, “Everyone has their own ideas and creations.” But if there were a perfect collection, he explained it’d be something true to him, and that it has to have a lot of meaning to him. That’s what he wants to continue with Vlackbook, it’s something meaningful and wants to make art coming from his heart rather than designing for money.

Jesus Pineda’s message to the world

A piece of advice Jesus would like to give to anyone who’s scared to start up their own business is just to go for it. Don’t listen to those who want to hold you back because those are the ones who doubt themselves and never tried to go out for what they wanted. If you’re scared of failure, don’t be, just remember it’s a learning experience. As for Jesus, a piece of advice he’d give himself if he’s ever doubtful would be “Just keep on pushing, you have so many ideas and creations yet to be made”.  Many people everyday have doubts on certain things, but Jesus certainly didn’t have any throughout his career so far. Every mistake he’s made is just a learning experience for him.

Along with Vlackbook, there is so much to come. Jesus will continue on designing what he loves. Vlackbook is what he stands for today.
